The Design Process

Although solutions use different combinations and configurations of the MD Link components, the basic design process consists of:

1. Determining:
   • the required inputs (Resources and Events)
   • the required outputs (files, HL7 messages, emails etc)
   • the processing needed to transform the inputs into the outputs
   • which MD Link components are needed to handle the inputs, make the transformations, and produce the outputs
• how the components need to be connected to each other
2. Creating a New Solution File.

   • Adding Components to the Solution.
   • Connecting Components on the Solution Pane.
   • Configure each component in the Editor pane. See Working with Event Components; Working with Task Components; Working with Resource Components.
   • Mapping Component Data for pairs of connected components.
   • (Optional) Setting up logging and/or email alerts for task components. See Alerts tab.
   • (Optional) Adding descriptive text boxes to the solution pane to document the components of your solution. Click the icon then click in the solution pane. Type a component label or description in the text box that appears. You can move the resulting text around on the solution pane as necessary.
4. Testing a Solution in the Studio.

Because you may follow an iterative process, you may alternate between step 3 (and its substeps) and step 4 as you develop your solution.
